Do you find yourself haunted by distressing memories of the past? Having difficulty living your life without feeling held back by your mental health? At Tisdale Holistic Therapy and Coaching in San Antonio, Texas, I offer transformative healing through Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. My holistic approach combines the power of EMDR with mindfulness exercises and other effective therapies to provide comprehensive support for individuals seeking relief from trauma, PTSD, and anxiety.
What Is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. Developed by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s, EMDR was intended to be used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This method enables patients to heal from emotional distress caused by disturbing life experiences.
How Does EMDR Work?
EMDR therapy uses a technique called bilateral stimulation to repeatedly activate opposite sides of the brain. Eye movements are the most common form of bilateral stimulation. These eye movements mimic the period of sleep referred to as rapid eye movement or REM sleep, the time during which the mind processes recent events in the person’s life. EMDR seems to help the brain reprocess trapped memories so that normal information processing is resumed. Trauma therapists often use EMDR to help clients uncover and process beliefs that developed as the result of relational traumas, such as childhood abuse and/or neglect. What Does EMDR Treat?
EMDR is generally considered an effective treatment for PTSD, but recent evidence has suggested that EMDR can help with the following conditions as well:
- Panic Attacks
- Complicated Grief
- Dissociative Orders
- Disturbing Memories
- Phobias
- Pain Disorders
- Performance Anxiety
- Addictions
- Stress Reduction
- Sexual and/or Physical Abuse
- Body Dysmorphic Disorders
- Personality Disorders
None of the above symptoms or experiences fit you?
Do you struggle with emotional regulation, having emotional responses that often appear excessive to you and perhaps to others? Do you tend to react strongly to certain triggers? Are you plagued by disturbing thoughts that won’t let you rest, even though you know they are not true or accurate? If you said yes to any of these, you may still be a good candidate for EMDR therapy. Reach out to Tisdale Holistic Therapy and Coaching today to see if EMDR might help you release what no longer serves you. My services are available virtually and in person for residents of the San Antonio area.
